Train services resumes on Cuttack-Nergundi rail section in Odisha after derailment

At least one person died and several people were injured on Sunday after 11 coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Odisha’s Cuttack.
Sources in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said the derailment occurred at 11.54 am.

ECoR officials identified the dead passenger as West Bengal resident Subhankar Roy. A woman passenger suffered serious injuries and two men were being treated for minor injuries, officials said. Several others who were injured were given first aid at the site of the derailment.
The Railways announced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those who suffered serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries
The Commissioner of Railway Safety will conduct an inquiry into the incident, officials said.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed concern over the incident and directed officials to restore normalcy on the railway line as soon as possible.

“Deeply concerned about the derailment of Kamakhya Express near Nergundi station in Cuttack… Authorities are on-site, ensuring assistance and restoring normalcy at the earliest. Helplines activated for support,” Majhi wrote on X.

Majhi’s Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma said his office is in touch with the Odisha government and the Railways.
“I am aware of the incident involving 12551 Kamakhya Express in Odisha. Assam Chief Minister’s Office is in touch with the Odisha government and Railways. We will reach out to each and every person who is affected,” Sarma wrote on X.
Railway authorities have arranged a special train to carry stranded passengers to their destinations.
Divisional railway manager (DRM) of Khurda Road, general manager of ECoR and other high-level officials have rushed to the spot to oversee relief and restoration work.
Routes of several trains have been diverted due to the derailment, said ECoR officials.
Officials also said the rescue and restoration work is in progress on a war footing under the direction and supervision of senior railway officials.
